Four Months Today

There are just four months to go until Relay For Life Stockport 2014 kicks off on Saturday 7th June.

I'm sure many of you are now getting your teams together, and preparing for this amazing experience - but some of you might still be wondering what Relay is, and whether or not you should be getting involved.

The first question is partly answered below in the "Brief Guide to Relay For Life" post - have a read through that.  The answer to the second question must be a resounding YES!

One of last years team members said to us recently "I have never laughed or cried so much in 24 hours as I did at the Relay."  It really is an emotional roller coaster of a day, the feelings you experience at Relay For Life can stay with you forever.

Relay starts with our VIP guest, our Cancer Survivors, who walk a lap of the track.  Then the teams take to the field and walk their first lap.  After that rather organised start, it's up to you as team members to take it in turns and keep your team baton going around the field for the full 24 hours.  The rest of the team can relax by your tents, sleep, partake of the refreshments on offer, join in with the many and varied entertainments or watch an act on the stage.   As it starts to get dark at 10pm we assemble in front of the stage for the Candle Of Hope ceremony.  Bags are lit around the track, each one commemorating someone we've lost to cancer.  It's an incredibly moving part of the weekend.  After that gentle slowdown, we pick things up again with a Midnight Madness lap - raising awareness of mens cancer with pants over your trousers.  Games of bingo and scrabble continue the fun through the night for those walking or who can't sleep as we watch the sun come up.  Sunday morning dawns and we head towards our emotional closing ceremony, and finally, one last lap -  a massive conga around the track.
