Team Night Monday 16 January

Despite it being the day dubbed 'Blue Monday', supposedly the most miserable of the year, our relayers celebrated 2017 with a great turn out at the first team night on Monday 16th January.

Event chair Neil began by welcoming those in attendance, and then introduced new committee member Katherine who has already begun revolutionising our social media sides - as well as facebook make sure you're following the instagram (@RelayForLifeStockport) and twitter (@StockportRelay) accounts.

Traditionally the couple of weeks over Christmas have always been slow for team sign ups, but now that period is over, Neil was keen to get teams out there recruiting.  More than 80% of Stockport Relay teams join up as a result of having actually been to the event, usually as part of a team.  We want team captains in particular to go out and tell the rest of the world what an incredible thing Relay For Life is; often there are individuals or groups inside one team that could well start up their own team - and this is how Relay grows.  So get out there and find us some new teams!

World Cancer Day is coming up on Saturday 4th February, we'll have wristbands available for you to sell at £2 each very soon - look out for more details.  Cancer Research UK have prepared a mail out to teams with some great fundraising ideas - including holding a quiz night.  So, in the spirit of that, we held our own team night mini quiz.   Quizmaster Neil devised 5 reasonably challenging questions, questionmaster Conor asked them... and the pair of Jeff and Daniel Oliver were our winners (getting an impressive three right out of five).

Cancer Awareness Chair Bruce demonstrated Targeted Therapies - team members and captains got to have a go as demonstrated by Jason here.

We finished off with a very interesting feedback session - lots of really good points made that the committee will work on over the next few weeks.  We'll try to get a diary of events put together, and let everyone know what is going on as early as we possibly can - we'll be pushing Cancer Research UK for some dates over the next few days.  One thought was that team captains could have their own facebook group to share information and again we will look into this.
